1  Now¹¹⁶¹ faith⁴¹⁰² is²⁰⁷⁶ the substance⁵²⁸⁷ of things hoped for,¹⁶⁷⁹ the evidence¹⁶⁵⁰ of things⁴²²⁹ not³⁷⁵⁶ seen.⁹⁹¹

1  믿음은 바라는 것들의 실상이요 보지 못하는 것들의 증거니

1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

1  이제 믿음은 바라는 것들에 대한 실상이요 보이지 않는 것들에 대한 증거니,

2  For¹⁰⁶³ by¹⁷²² it⁵⁰²⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ elders⁴²⁴⁵ obtained a good report.³¹⁴⁰

2  선진들이 이로써 증거를 얻었으니라

2  For by it the elders obtained a good report.

2  원로들이 그것으로써 좋은 평판을 얻었느니라.

3  Through faith⁴¹⁰² we understand³⁵³⁹ that the³⁵⁸⁸ worlds¹⁶⁵ were framed²⁶⁷⁵ by the word⁴⁴⁸⁷ of God,²³¹⁶ so that things which are seen⁹⁹¹ were not³³⁶¹ made¹⁰⁹⁶ of¹⁵³⁷ things which do appear.⁵³¹⁶

3  믿음으로 모든 세계가 하나님의G2316 말씀으로 지어진 줄을 우리가 아나니 보이는 것은 나타난 것으로 말미암아 된 것이 아니니라

3  By faith we understand that the ages were framed by a word of God, so that the things being seen not to have come into being out of the things that appear.

3  믿음으로 우리는 세상들이 하나님(야훼)의 말씀으로 지어진 것을 깨닫나니 보이는 것들은 나타나는 것들로 된 것이 아니니라.

4  By faith⁴¹⁰² Abel⁶ offered⁴³⁷⁴ unto God²³¹⁶ a more excellent⁴¹¹⁹ sacrifice²³⁷⁸ than³⁸⁴⁴ Cain,²⁵³⁵ by¹²²³ which³⁷³⁹ he obtained witness³¹⁴⁰ that he was¹⁵¹¹ righteous,¹³⁴² God²³¹⁶ testifying³¹⁴⁰ of¹⁹⁰⁹ his⁸⁴⁶ gifts:¹⁴³⁵ and²⁵³² by¹²²³ it⁸⁴⁶ he being dead⁵⁹⁹ yet²⁰⁸⁹ speaketh.²⁹⁸⁰

4  믿음으로 아벨은 가인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님께G2316 드림으로 의로운 자라 하시는 증거를 얻었으니 하나님이G2316 그 예물에 대하여 증거하심이라 저가 죽었으나 그 믿음으로써 오히려 말하느니라

4  By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts. And by it he, being dead, yet speaks.

4    믿음으로 아벨은 카인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님(엘로힘)께 드림으로써 의로운 자라고 증거를 받았으니, 하나님(엘로힘)께서 그의 예물들을 인정하심이라. 그가 죽었으나 믿음으로 아직 말하고 있느니라.

5  By faith⁴¹⁰² Enoch¹⁸⁰² was translated³³⁴⁶ that he should not³³⁶¹ see¹⁴⁹² death;²²⁸⁸ and²⁵³² was not³⁷⁵⁶ found,²¹⁴⁷ because¹³⁶⁰ God²³¹⁶ had translated³³⁴⁶ him:⁸⁴⁶ for¹⁰⁶³ before⁴²⁵³ his⁸⁴⁶ translation³³³¹ he had this testimony,³¹⁴⁰ that he pleased²¹⁰⁰ God.²³¹⁶

5  믿음으로 에녹은 죽음을 보지 않고 옮기웠으니G3346 하나님이G2316 저를 옮기심으로 다시 보이지 아니하니라 저는 옮기우기 전에 하나님을G2316 기쁘시게 하는 자라 하는 증거를 받았느니라

5  By faith Enoch was translated so as not to see death, and he was not found, because God had translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

5  믿음으로 에녹은 죽음을 보지 않고 옮겨졌으니, 하나님(엘로힘)께서 그를 옮기셨으므로 다시 보이지 아니하니라. 그는 옮기우기 전에 하나님(엘로힘)을 기쁘시게 하였다는 증거를 지녔느니라.

6  But¹¹⁶¹ without⁵⁵⁶⁵ faith⁴¹⁰² it is impossible¹⁰² to please²¹⁰⁰ him: for¹⁰⁶³ he that cometh⁴³³⁴ to God²³¹⁶ must¹¹⁶³ believe⁴¹⁰⁰ that³⁷⁵⁴ he is,²⁰⁷⁶ and²⁵³² that he is¹⁰⁹⁶ a rewarder³⁴⁰⁶ of them that diligently seek¹⁵⁶⁷ him.⁸⁴⁶

6  믿음이 없이는 기쁘시게 못하나니 하나님께G2316 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과 또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상 주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라

6  But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

6  그러나 믿음이 없이는 하나님(그분)을 기쁘시게 할 수 없나니, 하나님(엘로힘)께 나아가는 자는 그분이 존재하시는 것과 그분이 자기를 열심히 찾는 자들에게 보상하는 분이심을 마땅히 믿어야 하느니라.

7  By faith⁴¹⁰² Noah,³⁵⁷⁵ being warned of God⁵⁵³⁷ of⁴⁰¹² things not seen as yet,^{3369, 991} moved with fear,²¹²⁵ prepared²⁶⁸⁰ an ark²⁷⁸⁷ to the saving^{1519, 4991} of his⁸⁴⁸ house;³⁶²⁴ by¹²²³ the which³⁷³⁹ he condemned²⁶³² the³⁵⁸⁸ world,²⁸⁸⁹ and²⁵³² became¹⁰⁹⁶ heir²⁸¹⁸ of the³⁵⁸⁸ righteousness¹³⁴³ which is by²⁵⁹⁶ faith.⁴¹⁰²

7  믿음으로 노아는 아직 보지 못하는 일에 경고하심을 받아 경외함으로 방주를 예비하여 그 집을 구원하였으니 이로 말미암아 세상을 정죄하고 믿음을 좇는 의의 후사가 되었느니라

7  By faith Noah, having been warned by God of things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

7    믿음으로 노아는 아직 보지 못한 일들에 대해 하나님(야훼)의 경고하심을 받고 두려움으로 행하여 방주를 예비함으로 자기 집안을 구원하였으니, 그것을 통하여 세상을 정죄하고 믿음에 의한 의의 상속자가 되었느니라.

8  By faith⁴¹⁰² Abraham,¹¹ when he was called²⁵⁶⁴ to go out¹⁸³¹ into¹⁵¹⁹ a place⁵¹¹⁷ which³⁷³⁹ he should after³¹⁹⁵ receive²⁹⁸³ for¹⁵¹⁹ an inheritance,²⁸¹⁷ obeyed;⁵²¹⁹ and²⁵³² he went out,¹⁸³¹ not³³⁶¹ knowing¹⁹⁸⁷ whither⁴²²⁶ he went.²⁰⁶⁴

8  믿음으로 아브라함은 부르심을 받았을 때에 순종하여 장래 기업으로 받을 땅에 나갈새 갈 바를 알지 못하고 나갔으며

8  By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out into a place which he was afterward going to receive for an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he went.

8  믿음으로 아브라함은 장차 유업으로 받을 땅으로 떠나가라는 부름을 받았을 때 순종하여 어디로 가야 하는지도 모르면서 떠났으며

9  By faith⁴¹⁰² he sojourned³⁹³⁹ in¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ land¹⁰⁹³ of promise,¹⁸⁶⁰ as in⁵⁶¹³ a strange country,²⁴⁵ dwelling²⁷³⁰ in¹⁷²² tabernacles⁴⁶³³ with³³²⁶ Isaac²⁴⁶⁴ and²⁵³² Jacob,²³⁸⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ heirs with him⁴⁷⁸⁹ of the³⁵⁸⁸ same⁸⁴⁶ promise:¹⁸⁶⁰

9  믿음으로 저가 외방에 있는 것같이 약속하신 땅에 우거하여 동일한 약속을 유업으로 함께 받은 이삭과 야곱으로 더불어 장막에 거하였으니

9  By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs of the same promise with him.

9  믿음으로 그는 타국 땅에 있는 것같이 약속의 땅에 기거하여 그와 함께 그 동일한 약속의 상속자들인 이삭과 야곱과 더불어 장막에서 살았느니라.

10  For¹⁰⁶³ he looked for¹⁵⁵¹ a city⁴¹⁷² which hath²¹⁹² foundations,²³¹⁰ whose³⁷³⁹ builder⁵⁰⁷⁹ and²⁵³² maker¹²¹⁷ is God.²³¹⁶

10  이는 하나님의G2316 경영하시고 지으실 터가 있는 성을 바랐음이니라

10  For he looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

10  이는 그가 기초들이 있는 한 도성을 기다렸음이니 그것을 세우시고 만드신 분은 하나님(엘로힘)이시니라.

11  Through faith⁴¹⁰² also²⁵³² Sarah⁴⁵⁶⁴ herself⁸⁴⁶ received²⁹⁸³ strength¹⁴¹¹ to¹⁵¹⁹ conceive²⁶⁰² seed,⁴⁶⁹⁰ and²⁵³² was delivered of a child⁵⁰⁸⁸ when she was past age,^{3844, 2244, 2540} because¹⁸⁹³ she judged²²³³ him faithful⁴¹⁰³ who had promised.¹⁸⁶¹

11  믿음으로 사라 자신도 나이 늙어 단산하였으나 잉태하는 힘을 얻었으니 이는 약속하신 이를 미쁘신 줄 앎이라

11  By faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged Him who had promised to be faithful.

11  사라 자신도 수태할 나이가 지났지만 믿음으로 씨를 잉태하는 힘을 받아 아이를 출산하였으니, 이는 약속하신 분이 신실하신 줄로 여김이라.

12  Therefore¹³⁵² sprang¹⁰⁸⁰ there even²⁵³² of⁵⁷⁵ one,¹⁵²⁰ and²⁵³² him⁵⁰²³ as good as dead,³⁴⁹⁹ so many as²⁵³¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ stars⁷⁹⁸ of the³⁵⁸⁸ sky³⁷⁷² in multitude,⁴¹²⁸ and²⁵³² as⁵⁶¹⁶ the sand²⁸⁵ which³⁵⁸⁸ is by³⁸⁴⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ sea shore^{5491, 2281} innumerable.³⁸²

12  이러므로 죽은 자와 방불한 한 사람으로 말미암아 하늘에 허다한 별과 또 해변의 무수한 모래와 같이 많이 생육하였느니라

12  Because of this came into being from one, and that of one having died, even as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

12  그러므로 죽은 자와 같이 된 한 사람으로 인하여 하늘의 수많은 별과 해변의 헤아릴 수 없는 모래와 같이 많은 사람이 생육하였느니라.

13  These³⁷⁷⁸ all³⁹⁵⁶ died⁵⁹⁹ in²⁵⁹⁶ faith,⁴¹⁰² not³³⁶¹ having received²⁹⁸³ the³⁵⁸⁸ promises,¹⁸⁶⁰ but²³⁵ having seen¹⁴⁹² them⁸⁴⁶ afar off,⁴²⁰⁷ and²⁵³² were persuaded³⁹⁸² of them, and²⁵³² embraced⁷⁸² them, and²⁵³² confessed³⁶⁷⁰ that³⁷⁵⁴ they were¹⁵²⁶ strangers³⁵⁸¹ and²⁵³² pilgrims³⁹²⁷ on¹⁹⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ earth.¹⁰⁹³

13  이 사람들은 다 믿음을 따라 죽었으며 약속을 받지 못하였으되 그것들을 멀리서 보고 환영하며 또 땅에서는 외국인과 나그네로라 증거하였으니

13  These all died by way of faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off. And they were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

13   이들은 모두 믿음 안에서 죽었으나 모두가 그 약속들을 받은 것은 아니로되 멀리서 그것들을 보았고 확신하여 소중히 간직하였으며, 또 이 땅 위에서 타국인이요 순례자라고 고백하였느니라.

14  For¹⁰⁶³ they that say³⁰⁰⁴ such things⁵¹⁰⁸ declare plainly¹⁷¹⁸ that³⁷⁵⁴ they seek¹⁹³⁴ a country.³⁹⁶⁸

14  이같이 말하는 자들은 본향 찾는 것을 나타냄이라

14  For they who say such things declare plainly that they seek a fatherland.

14  이는 이런 것들을 말하는 사람들은, 자신들이 본향을 찾고 있음을 분명히 나타낸 것이라.

15  And²⁵³² truly,³³⁰³ if¹⁴⁸⁷ they had been mindful³⁴²¹ of that¹⁵⁶⁵ country from⁵⁷⁵ whence³⁷³⁹ they came out,¹⁸³¹ they might have had^{2192, 302} opportunity²⁵⁴⁰ to have returned.³⁴⁴

15  저희가 나온바 본향을 생각하였더면 돌아갈 기회가 있었으려니와

15  And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from which they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

15  만일 그들이 실로 떠나온 고향을 생각하였더라면 되돌아갈 기회가 있었겠지만

16  But¹¹⁶¹ now³⁵⁷⁰ they desire³⁷¹³ a better²⁹⁰⁹ country, that is,⁵¹²³ a heavenly:²⁰³² wherefore¹³⁵² God²³¹⁶ is not³⁷⁵⁶ ashamed¹⁸⁷⁰ to be called¹⁹⁴¹ their⁸⁴⁶ God:²³¹⁶ for¹⁰⁶³ he hath prepared²⁰⁹⁰ for them⁸⁴⁶ a city.⁴¹⁷²

16  저희가 이제는 더 나은 본향을 사모하니 곧 하늘에 있는 것이라 그러므로 하나님이G2316 저희 하나님이라G2316 일컬음 받으심을 부끄러워 아니하시고 저희를 위하여 한 성을 예비하셨느니라

16  But now they stretch forth to a better fatherland, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

16  이제 그들이 사모하는 곳은 더 좋은 본향, 곧 하늘에 있는 것이라. 그러므로 하나님(야훼)께서는 그들의 하나님(엘로힘)이라 불리우는 것을 부끄러워하지 아니하시니 이는 그들을 위하여 한 도성을 예비하셨음이라.

17  By faith⁴¹⁰² Abraham,¹¹ when he was tried,³⁹⁸⁵ offered up⁴³⁷⁴ Isaac:²⁴⁶⁴ and²⁵³² he that had received³²⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ promises¹⁸⁶⁰ offered up⁴³⁷⁴ his only begotten³⁴³⁹ son,

17  아브라함은 시험을 받을 때에 믿음으로 이삭을 드렸으니 저는 약속을 받은 자로되 그 독생자를 드렸느니라

17  By faith Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. And he who had received the promises offered up his only-begotten son,

17    믿음으로 아브라함은 시험을 받을 때 이삭을 제물로 드렸으니, 그 약속들을 받은 자가 그의 독생자를 드린 것이라.

18  Of⁴³¹⁴ whom³⁷³⁹ it was said,²⁹⁸⁰ That³⁷⁵⁴ in¹⁷²² Isaac²⁴⁶⁴ shall thy⁴⁶⁷¹ seed⁴⁶⁹⁰ be called:²⁵⁶⁴

18  저에게 이미 말씀하시기를 네 자손이라 칭할 자는 이삭으로 말미암으리라 하셨으니

18  of whom it was said that in Isaac your Seed shall be called,

18  그에 관하여 말씀하시기를 "네 씨라 불리울 자는 이삭에게서 난 자라."고 하셨으니

19  Accounting³⁰⁴⁹ that³⁷⁵⁴ God²³¹⁶ was able¹⁴¹⁵ to raise him up,¹⁴⁵³ even²⁵³² from¹⁵³⁷ the dead;³⁴⁹⁸ from whence³⁶⁰⁶ also²⁵³² he received²⁸⁶⁵ him⁸⁴⁶ in¹⁷²² a figure.³⁸⁵⁰

19  저가 하나님이G2316 능히 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리실 줄로 생각한지라 비유컨대 죽은 자 가운데서 도로 받은 것이니라

19  concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from where he even received him, in a figure.

19  그는 하나님(엘로힘)께서 죽은 자들로부터 그를 살리실 수 있으리라고 생각하였음이라. 이로써 그는 모형으로 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 받은 것이니라.

20  By faith⁴¹⁰² Isaac²⁴⁶⁴ blessed²¹²⁷ Jacob²³⁸⁴ and²⁵³² Esau²²⁶⁹ concerning⁴⁰¹² things to come.³¹⁹⁵

20  믿음으로 이삭은 장차 오는 일에 대하여 야곱과 에서에게 축복하였으며

20  By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

20  믿음으로 이삭은 다가올 일들에 관하여 야곱과 에서에게 축복하였고,

21  By faith⁴¹⁰² Jacob,²³⁸⁴ when he was a dying,⁵⁹⁹ blessed²¹²⁷ both¹⁵³⁸ the³⁵⁸⁸ sons⁵²⁰⁷ of Joseph;²⁵⁰¹ and²⁵³² worshiped,⁴³⁵² leaning upon¹⁹⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ top²⁰⁶ of his⁸⁴⁸ staff.⁴⁴⁶⁴

21  믿음으로 야곱은 죽을 때에 요셉의 각 아들에게 축복하고 그 지팡이 머리에 의지하여 경배하였으며

21  By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshiped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

21    믿음으로 야곱은 죽을 때에 요셉의 두 아들 하나하나에게 축복하였으며, 그의 지팡이 머리에 의지하여 경배드렸느니라.

22  By faith⁴¹⁰² Joseph,²⁵⁰¹ when he died,⁵⁰⁵³ made mention³⁴²¹ of⁴⁰¹² the³⁵⁸⁸ departing¹⁸⁴¹ of the³⁵⁸⁸ children⁵²⁰⁷ of Israel;²⁴⁷⁴ and²⁵³² gave commandment¹⁷⁸¹ concerning⁴⁰¹² his⁸⁴⁸ bones.³⁷⁴⁷

22  믿음으로 요셉은 임종시에 이스라엘 자손들의 떠날 것을 말하고 또 자기 해골을 위하여 명하였으며

22  By faith, Joseph dying remembered concerning the Exodus of the sons of Israel and gave orders concerning his bones.

22    믿음으로 요셉은 임종시에 이스라엘 자손이 떠날 것에 관하여 말하였고 또 자기 유골에 관하여 명하였느니라.

23  By faith⁴¹⁰² Moses,³⁴⁷⁵ when he was born,¹⁰⁸⁰ was hid²⁹²⁸ three months⁵¹⁵⁰ of⁵²⁵⁹ his⁸⁴⁸ parents,³⁹⁶² because¹³⁶⁰ they saw¹⁴⁹² he was a proper⁷⁹¹ child;³⁸¹³ and²⁵³² they were not afraid^{5399, 3756} of the³⁵⁸⁸ king's⁹³⁵ commandment.¹²⁹⁷

23  믿음으로 모세가 났을 때에 그 부모가 아름다운 아이임을 보고 석달 동안 숨겨 임금의 명령을 무서워 아니하였으며

23  By faith Moses, having been born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child. And they were not afraid of the king's commandments.

23  믿음으로 모세는 태어났을 때에 출중한 아이로 보였기에, 그의 부모가 삼 개월 동안 숨겼으니, 이는 그들이 왕의 명령을 두려워하지 않았기 때문이며

24  By faith⁴¹⁰² Moses,³⁴⁷⁵ when he was come to years,^{1096, 3173} refused⁷²⁰ to be called³⁰⁰⁴ the son⁵²⁰⁷ of Pharaoh's⁵³²⁸ daughter;²³⁶⁴

24  믿음으로 모세는 장성하여 바로의 공주의 아들이라 칭함을 거절하고

24  Having become great, Moses by faith refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,

24  믿음으로 모세는 장성하여 파라오의 딸의 아들이라 칭함을 거절하고

25  Choosing¹³⁸ rather³¹²³ to suffer affliction with⁴⁷⁷⁸ the³⁵⁸⁸ people²⁹⁹² of God,²³¹⁶ than²²²⁸ to enjoy the pleasures^{2192, 619} of sin²⁶⁶ for a season;⁴³⁴⁰

25  도리어 하나님의G2316 백성과 함께 고난 받기를 잠시 죄악의 낙을 누리는 것보다 더 좋아하고

25  choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time,

25  잠시 동안 죄의 낙을 누리는 것보다 오히려 하나님(엘로힘)의 백성과 함께 고난받는 것을 택하였고

26  Esteeming²²³³ the³⁵⁸⁸ reproach³⁶⁸⁰ of Christ⁵⁵⁴⁷ greater³¹⁸⁷ riches⁴¹⁴⁹ than the³⁵⁸⁸ treasures²³⁴⁴ in¹⁷²² Egypt:¹²⁵ for¹⁰⁶³ he had respect⁵⁷⁸ unto¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ recompense of the reward.³⁴⁰⁵

26  그리스도를G5547 위하여 받는 능욕을 애굽의 모든 보화보다 더 큰 재물로 여겼으니 이는 상 주심을 바라봄이라

26  esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

26  그리스도(마쉬악H4899)의 능욕을 이집트의 보화들보다 더 큰 재물로 여겼으니 이는 그가 상 주심을 바라보았음이라.

27  By faith⁴¹⁰² he forsook²⁶⁴¹ Egypt,¹²⁵ not³³⁶¹ fearing⁵³⁹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ wrath²³⁷² of the³⁵⁸⁸ king:⁹³⁵ for¹⁰⁶³ he endured,²⁵⁹⁴ as⁵⁶¹³ seeing³⁷⁰⁸ him who is invisible.⁵¹⁷

27  믿음으로 애굽을 떠나 임금의 노함을 무서워 아니하고 곧 보이지 아니하는 자를 보는 것같이 하여 참았으며

27  By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king, for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

27   믿음으로 그는 왕의 노여움을 두려워하지 않고 이집트를 떠났으니 이는 그가 보이지 않는 분을 보는 것처럼 견디었기 때문이라.

28  Through faith⁴¹⁰² he kept⁴¹⁶⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ passover,³⁹⁵⁷ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ sprinkling⁴³⁷⁸ of blood,¹²⁹ lest³³⁶³ he that destroyed³⁶⁴⁵ the³⁵⁸⁸ firstborn⁴⁴¹⁶ should touch²³⁴⁵ them.⁸⁴⁶

28  믿음으로 유월절과 피 뿌리는 예를 정하였으니 이는 장자를 멸하는 자로 저희를 건드리지 않게 하려 한 것이며

28  Through faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest He who destroyed the first-born should touch them.

28    믿음으로 그가 유월절과 피 뿌리는 예를 지켰으니, 이는 첫태생을 멸하는 이가 그들을 손대지 못하게 하려 한 것이라.

29  By faith⁴¹⁰² they passed through¹²²⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ Red²⁰⁶³ sea²²⁸¹ as⁵⁶¹³ by¹²²³ dry³⁵⁸⁴ land: which³⁷³⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ Egyptians¹²⁴ attempting to do^{2983, 3984} were drowned.²⁶⁶⁶

29  믿음으로 저희가 홍해를 육지같이 건넜으나 애굽 사람들은 이것을 시험하다가 빠져 죽었으며

29  By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians attempting to do were drowned.

29  믿음으로 그들은 마른 땅을 가듯이 홍해를 통과하였으나 이집트인들은 그렇게 해 보려고 시도하다가 물에 빠져 죽었느니라.

30  By faith⁴¹⁰² the³⁵⁸⁸ walls⁵⁰³⁸ of Jericho²⁴¹⁰ fell down,⁴⁰⁹⁸ after they were compassed about^{2944, (1909)} seven²⁰³³ days.²²⁵⁰

30  믿음으로 칠일 동안 여리고를 두루 다니매 성이 무너졌으며

30  By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been compassed seven days.

30  믿음으로 그들이 칠 일 동안을 돌았더니 여리코의 성벽이 무너졌느니라.

31  By faith⁴¹⁰² the³⁵⁸⁸ harlot⁴²⁰⁴ Rahab⁴⁴⁶⁰ perished⁴⁸⁸¹ not³⁷⁵⁶ with them that believed not,⁵⁴⁴ when she had received¹²⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ spies²⁶⁸⁵ with³³²⁶ peace.¹⁵¹⁵

31  믿음으로 기생 라합은 정탐군을 평안히 영접하였으므로 순종치 아니한 자와 함께 멸망치 아니하였도다

31  By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.

31  믿음으로 창녀 라합은 정탐꾼들을 평안히 영접함으로 믿지 아니한 자들과 더불어 멸망하지 아니하였도다.

32  And²⁵³² what⁵¹⁰¹ shall I more²⁰⁸⁹ say?³⁰⁰⁴ for¹⁰⁶³ the³⁵⁸⁸ time⁵⁵⁵⁰ would fail¹⁹⁵² me³¹⁶⁵ to tell¹³³⁴ of⁴⁰¹² Gideon,¹⁰⁶⁶ and⁵⁰³⁷ of Barak,⁹¹³ and²⁵³² of Samson,⁴⁵⁴⁶ and²⁵³² of Jephthah;²⁴²² of David¹¹³⁸ also,⁵⁰³⁷ and²⁵³² Samuel,⁴⁵⁴⁵ and²⁵³² of the³⁵⁸⁸ prophets:⁴³⁹⁶

32  내가 무슨 말을 더 하리요 기드온 바락 삼손 입다와 다윗과 사무엘과 및 선지자들의 일을 말하려면 내게 시간이 부족하리로다

32  And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah; also David, and Samuel and the prophets,

32  내가 무슨 말을 더 하리요? 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입다, 다윗, 또한 사무엘과 선지자들에 관하여 말하려면 내게 시간이 부족하리라.

33  Who³⁷³⁹ through¹²²³ faith⁴¹⁰² subdued²⁶¹⁰ kingdoms,⁹³² wrought²⁰³⁸ righteousness,¹³⁴³ obtained²⁰¹³ promises,¹⁸⁶⁰ stopped⁵⁴²⁰ the mouths⁴⁷⁵⁰ of lions,³⁰²³

33  저희가 믿음으로 나라들을 이기기도 하며 의를 행하기도 하며 약속을 받기도 하며 사자들의 입을 막기도 하며

33  who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

33  그들은 믿음을 통하여 왕국들을 정복하기도 하고 의를 이루기도 하며, 약속들을 받기도 하고 사자들의 입을 막기도 하며

34  Quenched⁴⁵⁷⁰ the violence¹⁴¹¹ of fire,⁴⁴⁴² escaped⁵³⁴³ the edge⁴⁷⁵⁰ of the sword,³¹⁶² out of⁵⁷⁵ weakness⁷⁶⁹ were made strong,¹⁷⁴³ waxed¹⁰⁹⁶ valiant²⁴⁷⁸ in¹⁷²² fight,⁴¹⁷¹ turned to flight²⁸²⁷ the armies³⁹²⁵ of the aliens.²⁴⁵

34  불의 세력을 멸하기도 하며 칼날을 피하기도 하며 연약한 가운데서 강하게 되기도 하며 전쟁에 용맹되어 이방 사람들의 진을 물리치기도 하며

34  quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the strangers.

34   불의 세력을 소멸시키기도 하고 칼날을 피하기도 하며, 연약함 중에 강하게 되기도 하고 전쟁에서 용맹스럽게 되기도 하며, 외적들을 패주시키기도 하며

35  Women¹¹³⁵ received²⁹⁸³ their⁸⁴⁸ dead³⁴⁹⁸ raised to life again:^{1537, 386} and¹¹⁶¹ others²⁴³ were tortured,⁵¹⁷⁸ not³⁷⁵⁶ accepting⁴³²⁷ deliverance;⁶²⁹ that²⁴⁴³ they might obtain⁵¹⁷⁷ a better²⁹⁰⁹ resurrection:³⁸⁶

35  여자들은 자기의 죽은 자를 부활로 받기도 하며 또 어떤 이들은 더 좋은 부활을 얻고자 하여 악형을 받되 구차히 면하지 아니하였으며

35  Women received their dead raised to life again, and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

35  여자들은 그들의 죽은 자들을 다시 살려 받기도 하고 어떤 사람들은 고문을 당하면서도 굳이 면하려 하지 않았으니, 이는 그들이 더 좋은 부활을 얻고자 함이라.

36  And¹¹⁶¹ others²⁰⁸⁷ had²⁹⁸³ trial³⁹⁸⁴ of cruel mockings¹⁷⁰¹ and²⁵³² scourgings,³¹⁴⁸ yea,¹¹⁶¹ moreover²⁰⁸⁹ of bonds¹¹⁹⁹ and²⁵³² imprisonment:⁵⁴³⁸

36  또 어떤 이들은 희롱과 채찍질뿐 아니라 결박과 옥에 갇히는 시험도 받았으며

36  And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings; yes, more, of bonds and imprisonments.

36  또 어떤 사람들은 잔혹한 조롱과 채찍질의 시련도 받았고, 더욱이 결박당하고 감옥에도 갇혔으며

37  They were stoned,³⁰³⁴ they were sawn asunder,⁴²⁴⁹ were tempted,³⁹⁸⁵ were slain⁵⁹⁹ with¹⁷²² the⁽⁵⁴⁰⁸⁾ sword:³¹⁶² they wandered about⁴⁰²² in¹⁷²² sheepskins³³⁷⁴ and²⁵³² goatskins;^{(122), 1192} being destitute,⁵³⁰² afflicted,²³⁴⁶ tormented;²⁵⁵⁸

37  돌로 치는 것과 톱으로 켜는 것과 시험과 칼에 죽는 것을 당하고 양과 염소의 가죽을 입고 유리하여 궁핍과 환난과 학대를 받았으니

37  They were stoned, they were sawed in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented.

37    돌로 맞고, 톱으로 켜지고, 시험을 당하고, 칼로 살해되었으며, 양의 가죽과 염소의 가죽을 쓴 채 유리하며 궁핍과 고난과 학대를 당했느니라.

38  (Of whom³⁷³⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ world²⁸⁸⁹ was²²⁵⁸ not³⁷⁵⁶ worthy:) they⁵¹⁴ wandered⁴¹⁰⁵ in¹⁷²² deserts,²⁰⁴⁷ and²⁵³² in mountains,³⁷³⁵ and²⁵³² in dens⁴⁶⁹³ and²⁵³² caves³⁶⁹² of the³⁵⁸⁸ earth.¹⁰⁹³

38  (이런 사람은 세상이 감당치 못하도다)저희가 광야와 산중과 암혈과 토굴에 유리하였느니라

38  The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains and dens and caves of the earth.

38   (세상은 그들이 살 만한 데가 못 되었으므로) 그들은 광야와 산속과 동굴과 토굴에서 유리하였느니라.

39  And²⁵³² these³⁷⁷⁸ all,³⁹⁵⁶ having obtained a good report³¹⁴⁰ through¹²²³ faith,⁴¹⁰² received²⁸⁶⁵ not³⁷⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ promise:¹⁸⁶⁰

39  이 사람들이 다 믿음으로 말미암아 증거를 받았으나 약속을 받지 못하였으니

39  And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, did not receive the promise,

39  이 사람들이 모두 믿음을 통하여 좋은 평판을 얻었으나 그 약속을 받지는 못하였으니

40  God²³¹⁶ having provided⁴²⁶⁵ some⁵¹⁰⁰ better thing²⁹⁰⁹ for⁴⁰¹² us,²²⁵⁷ that²⁴⁴³ they without⁵⁵⁶⁵ us²²⁵⁷ should not³³⁶¹ be made perfect.⁵⁰⁴⁸

40  이는 하나님이G2316 우리를 위하여 더 좋은 것을 예비하셨은즉 우리가 아니면 저희로 온전함을 이루지 못하게 하려 하심이니라

40  for God had provided some better thing for us, that they should not be made perfect without us.

40   하나님(엘로힘)께서는 우리를 위하여 어떤 더 좋은 것을 예비하사 우리가 아니고서는 그들이 온전케 되지 못하게 하셨느니라.
